SPFYBA officials, coaches and managers of athletic teams and sponsors of our Association believe that students who have the privilege of membership within our Association should conduct themselves as responsible representatives of the SPFYBA. In order to assure this conduct, the board members, managers and coaches enforce a Code of Conduct. Furthermore, members of teams including managers, coaches players and parents or guardians who fail to abide by the Code of Conduct are subject to disciplinary action. Members of teams and parents must always serve as exemplars of high moral character, and demonstrate appropriate sportsmanship commitment, which is expected from all members of the SPFYBA. As recognized representatives of our Association, members are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior during the season (activity), in uniform or out of uniform, on or off the playing field.

We are all volunteering our time and talents to make this program a rewarding and positive experience for our children. The manner in which we conduct ourselves is extremely important in setting the proper example for the children. The Association has specific rules concerning proper conduct by our coaching staffs, umpires, players, and fans. We go over these rules at our monthly meetings, and our training sessions. To briefly summarize the rules; all team members & officials must be in their complete and proper uniform in order to participate on the playing field, safety rules must be followed, there is no tobacco use allowed on or near the playing field, profanity is not tolerated, only the Manager is allowed to question the umpire, everyone is expected to exhibit good sportsmanship, unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. Any violation of the rules can result in ejection. The most common violations resulting in an ejection are unsportsmanlike conduct, and arguing with an umpire. If a manager or coach is ejected from a game he or she must leave the field area. They may not go to the stands, or boundaries. Most of our managers & coaches have their own children playing, and they are allowed to wait for the completion of the game in their car in the parking lot. They are suspended at least for their next scheduled game, which they may not attend. If a player is ejected from a game they are to remain in the dugout or on the bench. If they are disruptive they must leave the field area. They are prohibited from participating in the next game that they attend.

If a fan is disruptive to the game by actions or speech towards players, managers, coaches, umpires, or other fans, the umpire will stop the game and instruct the manager of that fans team to ask the fan to behave or leave. If that is not possible, the game will end, and the offending fans team will forfeit.

There should be only positive comments, no negative comments should be made to your child or anyone else. If you are in the stands and you do not agree with a call by an Umpire or a Manager, don’t shout it out across the field, you just set a bad example for all the children and make a fool of yourself. There has been a lot of publicity about fights and arguments during youth sports games recently. We have a zero tolerance policy on this. If you wish for your child to participate and for yourself to enjoy watching the games don’t get out of line. Anyone creating or participating in a problem will be subject to Board review and consequences. We sincerely hope that these circumstances do not occur. This is the kids game, let them play. We are there to instruct and support them, and to set a good example to them, not to become a factor in the game.
